For over two decades, Jacaranda FM’s Good Morning Angels has been a cornerstone of the station’s DNA, changing the lives of individuals, families and communities through acts of kindness. As South Africa’s No.1 Feel-Good Station, Jacaranda FM is more than music and entertainment. It is a community that connects listeners through compassion, inspiration and meaningful action. Good Morning Angels embodies that spirit every Wednesday morning on Breakfast with Martin Bester.
What began as a simple weekly segment has grown into a sustained movement of generosity and hope. Since 2005, Good Morning Angels has raised and distributed more than R120 million, supporting people through life-saving medical interventions, educational bursaries and assistance for families facing hardship or tragedy. The programme’s impact extends to animal welfare and community organisations across the country.
Its success rests on the compassion of Jacaranda FM listeners and the consistent support of corporates and partners who step forward when called upon. Annual initiatives such as the Good Morning Angels Golf Day, which raised over R5,7 million in 2025 alone, continue to strengthen that impact, alongside ongoing donations and contributions throughout the year.
At its heart, Good Morning Angels is grounded in a simple belief: kindness matters. Sometimes that kindness is a small, unexpected gesture. At other times, it is life-changing support that alters the course of a family’s future.
After twenty years, Good Morning Angels stands as proof that when communities act together, meaningful change follows. In a fast-moving world, it remains a steady space for care, showing that when people listen, respond and show up for one another, lives can change for the better.
The Big Favour
Community upliftment driven by connection
East Coast Radio’s CSI initiative, The Big Favour, is a heartfelt community programme built on one simple belief: kindness has power, in every form it takes. Whether it is a small, unexpected gesture that brings relief to someone’s day, or a life-changing act of generosity that reshapes a family’s future, The Big Favour exists to create moments that truly matter.
Not every Big Favour needs to be large in scale to have meaningful impact. Sometimes it is about lifting someone’s spirits, easing a burden, or reminding them that they are seen and valued. A surprise, a helping hand, or a spark of hope can turn an ordinary day into something unforgettable. Often, those are exactly the moments people need most.
At the same time, The Big Favour recognises when more is required. There are moments when lasting change calls for bold action, such as providing safe housing, access to education, food security, or tools that enable long-term opportunity. A powerful example followed the KZN floods, when The Big Favour rebuilt the Shangase family home on Mandela Day after it was destroyed. It offered not only shelter, but dignity, security, and a fresh start.
What connects every Big Favour, big or small, is a deep sense of care for individuals, communities, and the broader KwaZulu-Natal region. Each initiative begins with listening and understanding real needs, then responding with empathy and practical action.
For more than 20 years, The Big Favour has reflected East Coast Radio’s commitment to its province. Whether the impact lasts a day or a lifetime, the purpose remains the same: to stand with KZN and make a meaningful difference where it counts.
